Summary

Whiteside Elementary School is a public elementary school located in Belleville, Illinois, serving grades PK-4 with a total enrollment of 668 students. The school is part of the Whiteside School District 115, which is ranked 654 out of 811 school districts in Illinois and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Whiteside Elementary School's academic performance is a concern, with proficiency rates in both English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics consistently lower than the state averages across all grades. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, the school's ELA proficiency rate for all grades was 40.8%, compared to the state average of 53.1%, and the school's Mathematics proficiency rate was 35.3%, compared to the state average of 38.5%. Additionally, the school has experienced a significant increase in chronic absenteeism, rising from 16.7% in the 2022-2023 school year to 25.4% in the 2024-2025 school year, which is notably higher than the state average.

When compared to nearby schools, Whiteside Elementary School generally underperforms in both academic achievement and student engagement metrics. For instance, Shiloh Elementary School, located just 3.12 miles away, consistently outperforms Whiteside Elementary School in ELA and Mathematics proficiency rates, as well as having a lower chronic absenteeism rate. This suggests that the challenges faced by Whiteside Elementary School may be unique to its specific context and student population, and that there may be opportunities to learn from the practices of higher-performing nearby schools to improve academic outcomes and student engagement.

Open Quote I am a former Whiteside student. I graduated from the middle school in 2010, and after I left, Whiteside began to go downhill. Fights occurred more often, curse words became like regular language, and peers were rude. I have heard kindergartners swear like a sailor and would highly recommend not sending your student here. Choose a private school or Wolf Branch, but stay away from Whiteside. Close Quote
