Open Quote We have lived all over the US and have raised 7 kids. This is absolutely one of the worst schools we have ever came across!! Our last child went here the first year of middle school..... then we moved him to another city and school. The theft rate for anything (not talking just electronics... talking shoes, jackets etc) is very high. There is heavy swearing amongst students and some staff. Violence at this school is some of the highest we have seen. We felt that this principle was not very qualified or didn't have the proper tools to run this middle school..... he refers to any and all problems "Its' because this is a highly diversified school." Before he became the principle of this school in the year 2012/2013 he was a liaison at Jefferson High School. One of the reasons it has one of the smallest student bodies of the Cedar Rapids School District is because it was just changed over to a middle school in 2012/2013. Before that it was an elementary/middle school for grades 2 through 8th. On another more positive note the band teacher is totally awesome and the majority of the 6th grade teachers are compassionate and caring!! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
