Despite the relatively high per-student spending at Johnson Elementary, the school consistently underperforms compared to the district and state averages in academic assessments. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, only 22.4% of 3rd graders, 9.6% of 4th graders, and 16.3% of 5th graders were proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to the Muscogee County averages of 24.6%, 27.1%, and 31.9%, respectively. The school has also maintained a 0-2 star rating from SchoolDigger over the past 10 years and ranks in the bottom quarter of Georgia elementary schools, with a ranking of 1154 out of 1238 schools in the 2024-2025 school year.

When comparing Johnson Elementary to nearby schools in the Muscogee County district, the differences in performance are stark. For instance, Britt David Elementary Computer Magnet Academy, which is only 2.16 miles away, consistently ranks in the top 3 elementary schools in the state and outperforms Johnson Elementary by a significant margin in academic achievement. The high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch at Johnson Elementary, ranging from 96.62% to 99.46% over the past few years, suggests that the school may be serving a population with significant socioeconomic challenges, which could be a contributing factor to the school's low performance.

Open Quote Teacher's talk to the children like crap. some of the teacher's also bully the students. if your child is struggling and don't do well on test, they treat them differently. this school also condones bullying. they will stick up for the bully and act as if the victim is at fault. they have a bunch of lazy teacher's who are only their for a paycheck! teacher's and staff are very phony, they smile in the parents face, (while hugging your child), and when the parent leaves they ignore your child and do not help them when they ask for help. they could care less about your child succeeding. Teachers as well as Mr. Hanner are also big gossipers. they talk about students to other parents as well. so please don't be fooled by this school. Muscogee county needs to hire better staff. stop hiring these teacher's who aren't fully qualified, then wonder why they have several failing schools and low test scores. these teacher's need better training!
