Open Quote As a student at Union Grove, I can say that my overall experience at the school is below par. This is not an extensive list of everything that’s going on at this school, just a list of things that occurred. To give a little background information, me and my family moved to this school because it had a high rating. We were not expecting to encounter so many unprofessional staff members at school. Assistant principals and even the principal don’t respond to emails when they’re busy. The teachers aren’t better at that. I was trying to figure out the situation with one of my grades, my parents wanted to schedule a meeting. No meeting was scheduled and I went to the counseling office to try and figure out the situation. When I came to the office, the staff called in the assistant principal. She began yelling at me, I was trying to explain the situation, and she began talking over me. I then called my guardian so the assistant principal could go talk to her and she started yelling, talking over her, and saying “mom we’re not gonna go back and forth”. In my view, she was trying to explain the situation to her but she wasn’t willing to listen. She also told her that she will always be on the side of teachers. This is not everything that transpired in the five minutes she entered the office to communicate with us, and we didn’t get the situation solved. When you’re absent for some time, some teachers don’t want to help. My technology teacher wouldn’t let me fix a mistake she got a student to help me because she was busy. She didn’t grade from the rubric and took points off for things she didn’t like. It appears to me that UG just wants their students to pass. This is not only our opinion but what several other students and parents have told us. I had several situations where I needed something resolved and the staff wasn’t willing to help, this is one example. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
