Open Quote This school is horrible, I too have experience where my son was not able to eat for days cause he had a negative balance of 2.10 which is ridiculous my son sat in school for 8 hours with nothing to eat at all. The school didn’t allow him to eat they denied him when he went in line to get food like everyone else. My son sat there begging his friends for their food at the table. When my son came home he was so weak that I cried. I called the school and left a message no return call at all so I can express how wrong this is to deny a 11 year old food for a 8 hours. How can my child even have enough energy to focus and do work. This is wrong and should be illegal. The school is horrible run far away from this school. This is minority students are African Americans to which it’s funny how 71 of those minorities were disciple by being suspended. This school is like a prison for our students. It just like a many jail no windows, denied lunch, no free time for the kids to run around except on fridays if it’s earned by having 35 points. My son informed me just today they earned 34 points and was denied to get fresh air. This is ridiculous I can’t wait till school year is over I will not be returning my son to this school. I’m getting him transferred Close Quote

Open Quote I used to think this was a great school for my child and was proud she attended Coleman, but they have a new system rule that I just found out about when they took food away from my child today, who was deeply upset that she wasn’t able to eat what all her friends ate. My daughter attends this school and just recently got a negative balance of $1.25 for her lunch charge. So what the school had done to her, was they took half her food away from her because she had a negative balance that can easily be paid for. I found out about this negative balance today but it still did not, in any way, affect the school from taking half her lunch away from her for the day. It was explained to me that the food that was taken away from her was not any extra money and that it came with her meal but since her account showed a negative $1.25 , they took it from her as a new rule for having a negative account. Parents please beware of this! The school now fails to let a child eat a full meal if the account shows ANY type of negative balance. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
