Open Quote People who know Richards Middle School understand that it is the largest Title I School in Gwinnett, and probably Georgia, with over 2150 students. Yet with many challenges, it was a 5 Star Climate Rated School in 2017 (no small feat), and 4 Stars for several years prior to that. It has been a state leader for the PBIS initiative. The vast majority of Richards' students make great decisions, pass/excel in their classes, improve their achievement levels each year, receive no discipline referrals, and enjoy coming to school at Richards (hence the 96 student attendance rate). Last year students from Richards also earned 1st Place in both Writing and Science, Gwinnett County Competitions. Two years ago, the Readers Rally Team was in the final four competition, out of 28 Gwinnett middle schools. In recent years, the school has one of the higher GA CCRPI scores for Title I Middle Schools. The majority of our students graduate from high school and every year we hear about the academic scholarships they've earned for college. In 2016-2017 the school raised $20,000 for United Way, Relay for Life, and the Richards Care Team. Many great deeds happen in this school! The staff at our school are very committed and we have little turnover each year (hence the 94 teacher attendance rate). People enjoy working at Richards, enjoy the students in the school, and few people request to leave this school. Certainly every school has it's areas for improvement and challenge. And we have ours! But it is a joy to work in a place where the work you do is valued by others, and the work itself adds value to the lives of others. Close Quote

Open Quote There are no words to describe the fervor of my loathing for this institution. The principal is a joke I have no idea how he became in that position power he is not good at running the school he does not have a good demeanor it is fake and he is non-communicative. If your child is not being bullied with racists and sexual content on the bus or from students then it is coming from the teachers. When I went to school 20 years ago they were no teachers that would scream and students faces as if they were the parent at Walmart about to go back to their trailer. That is not the right way to communicate with the child all you're going to do is create a negative environment. The school is full of negativity I cannot honestly give one compliment or Pro. It is all kinds. These are your whole life watching your language around your child keeping them away from television and everything and of course naturally children are going to talk and they're going to teach each other stuff but my God the level of what they're discussing is even above my head as far as sexual terms. My son should not come home and say blue waffles. I don't think rats should be allowed to continue to run around the parking lot nor should they continue to condone their super lice infestation that is on its fourth school year yes school year not calendar year school year. I am so afraid to send my child to that school and have her pick up parasites and have the school being non-communicative and when you try and get in touch with them they are so burnt out from having 30-something students they don't care and they don't want to email you. If your child is behind it so well to God and then they just pass them with the 72 get it done and make it someone else's problem and not a financial burden. Every single teacher we have encountered has been unprofessional I have been lied to my child has been abused she is neglected things like socializing which is important to learn with her peers free time enough time to actually get a break from the vigorous curriculum unlike teachers which get mandated Breaks by the government per law but our kids little tiny children they get about 30 minutes a day to shove food in their face and they are often times punished and have to have silent lunch. Open Quote Richards is a wonderful place that has the students and their best interest at the heart of every decision that is made! The one thing this school needs is more parental involvement. Close Quote

Open Quote Richards Middle School is a title one school that is very focused on doing the right thing when it comes to the education of Lawrenceville community children. The financial support is very good from the Federal Govt. and the State of Georgia, the administrators, teachers, counselors and all around staff really care about their students and the work they do for them.

The Administrators have an amazing focus on improving their students in all walks of life including reading literacy, communication and positive behavior. The average test scores have been improving year by year and that starts with good administrators who are willing to step behind teachers and reinforce rules that are in place to keep RMS a learning environment.

The Teachers put in a lot of time to try not to allow any student slip through the cracks. They all come in to this school mostly with Masters degrees and excellent experience in their chosen field. There is a mutual respect between teacher and student at Richards.

The Counselors have an open door policy that allows students really explain how they are doing and what sort of problems they may experience in and out of school. I know of one such counselor that is willing to go to the house of a student just to ensure their client (student) is safe and needs no more assistance.

The staff inside the school are always very helpful and the school is kept really clean.

I take pride knowing that a school like Richards exists in our community because I would want my children to attend a school that is not run like a business, but instead like a family.

Thank you Richards Middle School Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
