Open Quote Excellent teachers who genuinely care about the kids. Administrators are fair, and there aren't a lot of discipline issues. Students are challenged and work is engaging! My daughter loves her teachers! Close Quote

Open Quote We just moved here from Orlando, Fl. After getting over the culture shock we are starting to embrace the small town. People are very friendly and are usually willing to help anyway they can. This includes the teachers at Effingham. Uniforms are a must. Kids hate it. It doesn't cut down on the clothing bill as kids still want the Aeropostle or Holister or AF to wear after school. Biggest bummer is the budget cuts that the county and state keep making. No advanced classes this year. They were cut in a budget cut! This is exactly the reason this area lost Boeing to Macon area. Low test scores speak volumes. The problem with average classes is that the teacher is teaching a curriculum that is at 80% of your childs learning capacity. Next year they will be at 100% of 80% of the knowledge that they should have and if they make anything less than a "A" say a "B" then they are at 80% of 80% of the knowledge that they should have. Hopefully 2011-2012 will be different. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
