Open Quote We have a child who just graduated from Allatoona, one who is a junior, and one a rising freshman. We are extremely pleased with the faculty of this school! The success of the school obviously starts at the top, with the character and commitment of the current principal, Mr. Bursmith. Discipline is very good and the student body seems respectful of authority and each other at school functions.

Our kids had always attended Christian private schools up until the recession hit, and we were apprehensive about large, public schools, but we were amazingly surprised at the quality of academics, teachers and kids here, and the friendly, no-nonsense, non-bureaucratic staff. The athletic and fine arts programs are excellent now and steadily improving.

The school is still new (4 years old) so the facilities look great. We view Allatoona as one of Cobb County's "best kept secrets" Close Quote

Open Quote I agree with the parent below about the sports and inadequate math abilities. I have taken that into my own hands as far as teaching simple rules and phrases that I learned in school to help me remember how to get the proper answers or how to align certain variables to be able to attain the correct answer to a problem. Very surprised that these are not taught any more.

Also I teach my son to question anything and everything, to be a contrarian. This does not fit well with this school. If you want a mindless zombie of a child that fits in with all the masses and displays no real individuality then this school is perfect for you. I am not saying that every aspect of the school is undesirable but for the most part very disappointing. But I guess such is America these days.

By far better than most, but could still use a lot of improving! Close Quote

Open Quote Love Allatoona HS. Allatoona has the strictest dress code in the county and proud of it. Allatoona ranks high in the State in Math and Lit. Administration is top notch. Very glad that my son attends this school. Close Quote

Open Quote I have a sophomore at Allatoona High School this year. Our experience with Allatoona in his freshman year was fantastic. Very pleased with the education, math, science, language arts, etc. that is offered at Allatoona. Happy to see Allatoona ranked #5 in the State of Georgia on this website. We moved to this school district from a school ranked near 100 on the list and are very happy that we did. Close Quote

Open Quote Allatoona High School provides very low quality mathematics instruction. Other areas of instruction seem adequate. My High School senior has received very little true instruction in Math I-III and the teachers seem frustrated and unable or unwilling to provide explanations. The usual instruction method is to jot examples on the board and then assign in classroom work, so that the "teacher" can return to their true educational passions, which is usually coaching one of the many fine Allatoona HS sports teams. Sports is one area where Allatoona HS puts great effort. The frustrated public servants (teachers) may have given up on the new curriculum, in part, due to being unequipped to teach the Math I-IV curriculum. If you are not willing or are unable to shell out $11,000 - $16,000 per year to send your student to a local private school, be aware that your public school student will be robbed (since you probably pay property taxes) of a real mathematics education and our state and our country will continue its technical decline. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
