Open Quote Marshpoint has a wonder structured schedule with a great art, music, spanish and computer teacher. The primary classroom teachers do openly yell, use a whistle, and constantly call children out in front of their peers. There are several cliques of teachers who have worked together for several years that tend to spend time out in the halls gossiping about each other. The parapro's have lunchroom duty and it should be a time the children can socialize with each other. The children are screamed at constantly during this time and when the music stops playing and the children begin to talk to each other, a teacher will turned the music back on before it is timed to come on. Another concerning point is that the same children seem to be the ones to be in timeout or disciplined all the time. If your child is one who likes to talk and share, that will be the child constantly sitting at the desk with the head down. There is no time limit, it can go on for an hour or more while the class is doing work. This child is missing teaching time. The teachers do have a time for observation by the principal but it is known when that eval will happen and the teachers that I have witnessed being evaluated, orchestrate a different morning all together for the purpose of this eval. This is definitely not an environment for the child that is soft spoken and shy. The yelling and screamin goes on throughout the day by most of the staff the child comes in contact with. It does appear that the parents who are most visible and complain the most, get the right treatment for their child. Close Quote

Open Quote We were very disappointed in this school. Our child had two old teachers that were burned out and did not seem to enjoy the children. One of the teachers repeatedly told the parents how she couldn't wait to retire. Our child is very intelligent but fell in the cracks due to the school's main focus on the special needs children. Worksheets (busy work) seemed to be the only work in the classroom while we had to teach the work at home. My child's teachers were very rude and mean and seemed to be bullying the children. This was a horrible experience for a young child to have to endure. Many times parents were discouraged from attending field trips and classroom parties and we felt we were not welcomed at this school. When we offered to help, we were treated rudely. We would not recommend Marshpoint Elementary School to anyone.
We have since enrolled our child in private school and it has been a wonderful experience for us and our child. She has been receiving a wonderful education and is treated with respect and kindness. She loves going to school now. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
