Open Quote My son started azalea elementary this week. So far we have been given no information about anything that happens there. I have NOT received a class schedule, lunch menu, school information, NOTHING! School started on August 22 and they told me there would be a meeting August 31st about these issues. UMM, isn't that a little backwards. The other day when I picked my son up there was no supervision (he's in Kindergarten) and I simply took him out of line, no one noticed he was gone. He also told me a friend suggested they make guns out of toys in the classroom, I asked where his teacher was and he said "on her computer." Lastly, dismissal time is 1:50pm, I happened to show up early at 1:30 and the kindergarten was already outside at the curb. They said they don't announce it, but Kindergarten is released at 1:30. So I am just supposed to let my child stand outside for 20 minutes with minimal supervision. THIS IS INSANE!! I am pulling my son out of this school ASAP! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
