Open Quote This is a very good school. They work very hard and have a high academic program. They do expect a lot from students and they also hold parents accountable for their children. I am glad I found a school that has high expectations and follows through when things do occur. I love the no nonsense attitude, and willingness to work along side the parents. It is a perfect school for my children and family. Close Quote

Open Quote Horrible experience! Has a fictitious lottery system to select students. Of course, only their friends and associates get in. Bring the child to the school to raise their hopes for future success and crush them with the "its not what you know, but who you know" letter. Horrible school. Close Quote

Open Quote We brought our children (two boys, 8 &10) to Western Academy in the 13-14 school year. We originally came from Public school which we loved but this switch came with middle school in mind. Originally it seemed like this would be a great move, as we were promised that their style of teaching offered an individualized approach. My son who was in 2nd grade had a wonderful experience. All three of his teachers really seemed to love their jobs and want to teach the children. My older child (4th grade at the time) had a much different experience. His math teacher had a very cold approach and really should not even work with children. She is also very rude to parents. The one positive thing that came out of the year was that his teachers were able to notice and suggest that my 4th grader might have ADD. Turns out he does which explains so much about why he was struggling with certain areas. We then started a 504 plan which included ;prompting for breaks during tests, and several other tasks to help him concentrate. Turns out that they were never following the plan. My son's 504 was never honored, which is illegal. my son was in A/B Honors public school and yet his grades began to sink here. The IEP coordinator was outright discriminatory towards my son's situation and even suggested we leave. Several times. So we did. During all of this the principal avoided me the whole time, and i'm still yet to receive a phone call. I also volunteered in the cafeteria once a week, I witnessed the teachers assistants yelling at the children through out their meals. Constantly. The staff spends way too much time on their cell phones. Not for nothing the most professional people here were the secretaries who are completely over worked. It was certainly a learning experience (as a parent) but my son had a really awful experience.. If you have a child with learning disabilities, don't come here. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
