Open Quote This is the most unorganized school I have ever had my child enrolled in. The front desk staff never gives correct information when parents ask questions. There are not enough teachers to offer each pupil the electives that they desire. The teachers barely give out any homework. The books they are reading in 6th grade Language Arts class my child read in 4th grade. There is a big theft problem. A ridiculous dress code for boys. And on some days they leave the doors locked so the kids are waiting outside to enter without any teacher supervision. There is also a big absentee rate. Close Quote

Open Quote I am not happy with the way in which they handled graduation ceremony for the students of Dr. David L. Anderson Middle School. I feel their very strict dress rules for the ceremony has eliminated more than just my great nephew ( I am his Guardian) from attending. Two weeks ago when I checked I was advised the students could wear decent jeans and shoes with their t shirt that I purchased from the school and then when the day before graduation was told very adamantly if they did not wear black dress pants, dress shoes and dress belt with their graduation T-Shirt, which by the way was not an acceptable shirt to be worn with dress clothes, and I could not afford to purchase new clothes when he had perfectly nice jeans that would have looked very good with the T-Shirt they required they could not participate. I am sure there are other students whose parents can not afford the dress clothes, money does not grow on trees and in this time is more difficult than any other. I thought the graduation was to honor the students for their accomplishments but apparently it is more for the Staff and Administration to shine. I kept my great nephew out of school the last day because he could not attend the graduation ceremony! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
