Open Quote I have NOTHING but GREAT things to say about Stars. I have had two children graduate from Stars. My children were in the advanced classes and I feel that their education was very good. My son got a very high score (almost perfect) on the writing FCAT, higher than he had ever gotten at previous schools. The administration is strict, but neither of my children had problems. The teachers worked extra hours to make sure my children would do well on the FCAT. Often my child would go for free tutoring on Saturday for FCAT help. I have never heard of any other school doing this. I am very pleased with my children’s time at Stars and would highly recommend the school to others. Close Quote

Open Quote My child is a 7th grade student at Stars Middle School, and I have been VERY IMPRESSED and HAPPY with the school! The LEVEL OF COMMITMENT from the teachers is excellent. I feel they genuinely care about my child and the other students and make learning interesting, challenging, and fun. My son is getting an excellent education at Stars and he is happy there.

During school orientation, I hoped my child would sign up and at least try out one of the school clubs, but he wasn't interested at all. Within a week or so, teachers and administrators had motivated my son and he WANTED to join several academic clubs. I STILL can't get over the fact that my child, for whom learning comes pretty easily with little effort, now LIKES and WANTS to stay after school and go on Saturdays to LEARN MATH AND SCIENCE!! I'm telling you--this is a kid who would usually want to spend his time outside of school playing video games!

I think part of the secret to them motivating my child is that the teachers at Stars genuinely CARE about challenging students to do their best and reach their full potential--no matter if a student is classified as "gifted" or one who struggles with learning. The teachers who work with my son seem to really enjoy teaching and don't treat it like "just a job". I think if it were otherwise, my son wouldn't find it enjoyable and want to be there outside of the school day.

The school is very family-oriented, with periodic picnics and activities where families of students and teachers can get to know each other. I would highly recommend the school, without reservation, to any parent or student. Close Quote

Open Quote This schools has students taking classes to accumulate HSchool credits for a higher level without completing the first level of a subject. The fact is that the majority of the teachers do not have time for class planning because the school does not employ substitute teachers to cover absent teachers. Poor teachers! They have to cover for every absent teacher missing each day, work from 8-5 without lunch break and getting burn out due to overworking time the principal demand teachers to work. Teachers do not last long and there is a reason for it. You gigure what education the children can receive.... oh... it is ok, just teach them what you can, they just need to pass the class and earn the HS credit... Sorry for you teachers and children... About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
