Open Quote I love Colson Elementary School! I am a parent to a 1st grade student and also a teacher. Last year our scores dropped because there was a lot of transitioning and changes taking place. There's no doubt it was a challenging year. This year we are back on track with a consistent school wide behavior program and a strong school improvement plan. Teams meet regularly to discuss data and lesson planning. We are also strongly encouraged to attend professional development courses on a regular basis to continue to develop our teaching skills. The school is very clean and engages in a large volume of fundraisers and extracirricular events to support a positive learning culture and environment. My son was reading at a pre-K level at the beginning of 1st grade. WIth the help of Mrs. Jones, he is now reading on-level and might even get honor roll this last 9 weeks! I truly enjoy working at this school and appreciate the growth my son has made while attending here. Most families seem very happy and satisfied with how things are done. We welcome everyone to check us out! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
