Open Quote My son currently attends Mandarin Middle and I have found the teachers, counselors, coaches and administration to be excellent. He has excelled in all of his classes even though he has a vision impairment. They have gone out of their way to make sure he gets the help he needs and as a result he is a straight A student in Advanced classes hoping to be an Aeronautical Engineer one day. Close Quote

Open Quote I find that mandarin middle school is an inferior school. I have had a son and four grand-children that have gone to this school or are currently attending.Once the teachers or counselors or superintendent tag you as a problem child it tends to follow you no matter what you do. Recently, my grandson tried out for the basketball team. He was told he did not make the team because of his behavior. He got in trouble for not having his I.D. twice,I believe. To begin with if behavior in school was part of the basis if you got on the team it should have been posted right from the start. He is an excellant basketball player and is a good team player. He is also, a very good child, none of us are perfect,we all make small mistakes in life.We would not be human if we did not. My grandson deserves his right to play basketball. I would like to hear from the coach as to why he passed over a great basketball player.I would also like to hear about the perfect behavior of the gifted children who were picked.I would bet they too haven't the perfect behavior and aren't half as good a player as my grandson. I am not partial as others have seen much potential in him. He just needs the chance others have been given, you will not be sorry. He has never given any team or other coaches any problem or disrespect. Close Quote

Open Quote Mandarin middle school has helped me alot in my reading/L.A problems and in math as well. On my FCAT in math i got a 3 going up from a 1. I love the school and the teachers are the best to me they care about he students and make a connection with them. In fact i was going threw some hard times this year and i didnt even have to tell my teachers what it was and they could tell something was wrong. I couldn't lie to them. They knew when I lied or when anyone of their students lied to them. Close Quote

Open Quote I go here... The teachers are rude and lazy. My math teacher was gone for four weeks without explanation, leaving us with sub after sub after sub. We missed weeks and weeks worth of work and learning, and FCAT was nearby as well. I don't recommend this school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
