As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school is one where the teachers genuinely care for the students and there is a real sense of community and support within its walls.

The majority of students come from families where there are no "helicopter" parents around, and a great many students are being reared by grandmothers and aunts. Most of the kids qualify for free lunch and most live in subsidized housing.

This is a school that is improving tremendously. The capitol improvements make it one of the prettiest schools in the city and it has a dance studio, full gym with bleachers and an auditorium. It's half a block from the Waterfront Metro, and the location is indeed a great one.

Principal Miller is one of those educators movies are made about! (Not even kidding) She's the best person to tell her own story, but growing up poor under Communist rule in Poland to learning English and coming to the US determined to show poor children that education can absolutely bring them better lives is the jist.

Anyway, my child has thrived in the school. I wish there were more involved parents. (There are some!) This year has an extended day, and the students are being taught until 4:15. My friends at Yeshiva when I was growing up were the only ones I knew who were in school THAT long!

It needs more parent involvement. It needs some more middle class families. But this school is absolutely one to consider- especially if your child is bright. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
