As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote There is nothing occurring at this school that qualifies as college preparation, despite their claims. Students attending the CT Technical High Schools across the state should attend community colleges instead and pay tuition for the same training. It is unfair to CT taxpayers to support a school system that has long outlived its mission. How many students are employed in their trades after graduation? How many attend college AND graduate with a diploma? You probably don't want to know the answer to either question. Only 600 students attend this school.....eliminate it along with the other 17 technical high schools in CT and there will be a balanced state budget. If these students are really interested in their trade, they will pay for training like everyone else. Close Quote

Open Quote For many the alternative to Henry Abbott is Danbury High School, New Milford High School, New Fairfield High School. Compared to the other schools, Henry Abbott is smaller, spends a lot less money on sports, and graduates students who are capable of practicing a trade immediately.

One poster indicated there was no AP course at Henry Abbott, which is true. Instead if you take the electrical program as an example, you come out tested to be an electrician with between 1,000 and 1,500 hours credited of the time you will need to serve to become an electrician (becoming an electrician requires 4,000 hours in Connecticut).

Graduating Danbury High School often qualifies you to attend the local state university, community college, live with mom or dad, or work a minimum wage job. All this is possible with a degree from Henry Abbott, but is less common.

A non-Abbott High School graduate in the greater Danbury area can pay $18,000 to Ridley Lowell and after another school year, obtain the education, but not the time in trade, electrical program graduates of Henry Abbott already have at graducation and for which they paid nothing.

Vocational schools are not respected in Fairfield County Connecticut, which is unfortunate, as so many homes need plumbers, electricians, carpenters and other tradesmen to service and maintain their mini estates. Close Quote

Open Quote As a teacher I've seen firsthand that Abbott Tech. H.S. can be an ideal place to send your son or daughter if they are unsure about college. The pupils can learn a trade for free. They also receive solid academic training for college. Our math, science, English, and social studies courses not only teach content. They also follow the current B.E.S.T. practices: critical thinking skills, persuasive writing skills, problem solving techniques. Our CAPT scores are competitive with those of other school systems. We also can boast of a caring staff, and a safe school environment! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
