Open Quote This is a wonderful school, with exceptional teachers and a fantastic administrative team. As a charter school, they run on a shoestring, and decisions made by the collaborative overseeing the school caused it to grow too fast too quickly. But the stability and experience brought by the new principal and assistant principal have made a HUGE difference. Morale is excellent among the teachers, who finally feel respected and valued. My child LOVES going to school every day, and the culture is a positive, empowering one, thanks to the administration. We would highly recommend this school to anyone who wants an amazing academic experience for their kids! Close Quote

Open Quote This 'school' should be shut down and tax payers' money should no longer be wasted on such a miserable experiment in 'education'. The place is a real mess, kids are being bullied and traumatized on a daily basis. The 'leadership' are clinging onto their jobs for dear life, but seriously, no learning takes place. GVA Ft. Collins heavily relies on Kindergarten enrollment for funding. About 40% of students do not return after K grade and many parents pull out their kids during the Kindergarten year once they experience the horrible reality of the place and see their kids physically hurt, lost (as in no one knows what happened and where they went) or bullied. In result of the sub par enrollment the school runs a deficit year after year (about $1 million annually). They cut corners by not hiring enough staff - the lunch lady is also the registrar (cannot spell in English, not to mention a foreign language), then they have 2 rude individuals employed in administrative roles, a Principal who was fired by a Denver based language school, a Vice Principal who is essentially a glorified STOP sign holder and the teachers, most of them foreign and totally confused). No support staff. No teachers' aids. No PE teacher. No music teacher. No art teacher. Kids are unattended for the most part. Recess is a war zone. Commonly 1st and 2nd graders are pooled together to form a single class (that way GVA Ft. Collins pays to only one teacher). It is a minor detail that you have 6 to 8 year olds in the same classroom and at different levels of language proficiency. Most students are seriously behind their public school counterparts in English writing, reading and overall mastery.
For the record - immersion is when one is truly immersed in the language. As in you hear it all around you, you speak it with your peers, teachers, everyone. Al the time. What happens in GVA Ft. Collins is DEFINITELY not immersion. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
