As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The review of this school is for the 2017/18 year. Heard this school was great and that they had great academics. This was the year that Vista USD got LOTS of new staff and there was a lot of positive buzz in the air, so I enrolled my child. The year started off rough as the kids were told that they would be swimming and it was so hot in September, my child was excited. The PE teacher dropped the ball and my kids class didn't get to swim on the 3 occasions they were supposed to. The REST of the school did which was frustrating for their class. The bad experiences continued. Very little physical activity in PE. Before the kids play a sport, they have to learn about it first, write a paper on it (this is IB), then they play it. There were lots of 80's basketball bloopers, as the teacher seemed very unprepared the whole year. Then at recess, they are yelled at when they run. The kids don't get a lot of opportunity to get their wiggles out. The kids are not a priority at this school either. This is a typical public school with LOTS of rules. Rules are great, but imagine your wife over your shoulder all day long nagging you! They are even nagged at outside the school when crossing the crosswalk. Just grates at you especially when there is little outlet. The IB curriculum is touted, but I don't find it useful. It reminds me of liberalism. They also REALLY PUSH THE HOMOSEXUALITY agenda here. My kid was even (not in sex ed) told that homosexuality is normal! If your kid isn't already confused enough, they are really given the idea that they can date boys or girls, like it's a choice? That was the straw. I complained that this teacher wasn't allowed to teach my kids sex ed without my permission but the principal defended his teacher. This is what I mean about the kids coming last. For example, the librarian. The student has a line they must say before the librarian will answer the child. If you come in and don't say that line, the child is SCREAMED at. My child even saw the librarian grab a student by his lanyard and tugged him toward her. Seriously!! That is abuse. The list goes on. My child wasn't allowed to fill up his water bottle at the clean water dispenser. The vice principal made him use the moldy water dispenser. The teachers even told their students not to use that particular dispenser because the water was bad. To continue the list, there is a lot of peer grading which I am not sure actually counts toward their true grade. How is my kid supposed to know if he is progressing or not if a fellow student is grading? This school is not for us. The teachers and staff have a different experience than the students because they aren't forced to adhere to the same situations, moldy water, nagging at every corner, screaming librarians and I do mean screaming. I felt that my child was just another brick in the wall. Back to charter we go! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
