As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote While I think there are some wonderful people at Discovery as teachers and other staff, I have to give a low rating based on the principal and vice principle. For all of the 2017/2018 school year, my son was repeatedly harmed on the playground by another child. He asked for help multiple times, and nothing was ever done. Within the first month of the 2018/2019 school year, my son finally got fed up and hit the other child back. This happened twice, and both times my son was labeled a fighter. Only when I explained in detail what had been happening to his teacher, did anything change. Somehow she managed to work it out with the other childs teacher so the boys would not be near each other on the playground. She miraculously made it all stop almost immediately with just a bit of effort. Shortly after that finally ended, my son was playing with a couple of friends, when another boy and his two friends approached them. Something rude was apparently said, and my son told them it wasn't nice. He proceeded to then get kicked in the legs and testicles. At that point he again fought back and hit the boy once. He was then strangled hard enough to leave hand marks on his neck for 3 days, as well as two fat, bruised lips that he cried in pain about for an entire week. My son was spoken to without me (by the principal, because as a supervisor brought my bleeding son to the vice principal she was told "don't bring that to me, I don't want to deal with it"), and then I was simply told that he needs to work on controlling himself when he gets frustrated. End of story. I previously worked there as a supervisor, and have seen kids hurt each other on a regular basis. I believe this is now the climate of the school as the kids have learned that they will not have consequences for physically hurting another child. I will not return to work there, and my son has been enrolled elsewhere as I do not feel as though I should have to worry whether my SEVEN year old is safe and protected at school every day. As I said before, the only stars given to this school were because of other staff members that work hard and are good at their jobs. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
