Summary

Crescent Elementary is a top-performing K-6 public school in Anaheim, serving about 805 students within the Orange Unified School District, and it has consistently ranked among the very best elementary schools in California for over a decade.

The school's academic results are outstanding, with over 86% of students proficient in English and 80% in math, figures that are dramatically higher than both the district and state averages. This excellence is consistent across all student groups and grade levels. Notably, Crescent excels at supporting students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, ranking in the 99th percentile statewide for this subgroup. The school also maintains a very low chronic absenteeism rate of just 6.1%, which is less than half the rate of nearby schools like Serrano Elementary and Olive Elementary.

Crescent forms a local cluster of excellence with Nohl Canyon Elementary, another highly-ranked school nearby. Interestingly, Crescent achieves these exceptional results with a moderate per-student budget and a higher student-teacher ratio than many comparable schools, suggesting highly effective use of resources. Its performance even surpasses that of schools in higher-ranked districts, proving that a school's individual quality can be more important than its district's overall reputation.

Open Quote There is a general lack of respect for the children and the parents. The principal appears to operate without administration policy in place or supervision. The teachers seem scared and/or angry under the principal's leadership. I did not realize how much of an impact this negative environment had on my child until we moved and she thrived in a healthy GATE program. As a parent, I found my little girl's experience at Crescent Elementary disturbing. Close Quote

Open Quote When concerns arose over the embarrassment of a child and inappropriate punishment, I sought clarification. The teacher did not show up to the meeting she called with the principal. I shared some of my concerns with the principal and although she seemed confrontational and loud, she said she would talk to the teacher. Later, I was asked to come back and meet with the teacher and principal again. As a united front, they tried to alter reality and bully me. In dictatorship fashion, I was not allowed to talk. Literally, the principal told me to “shut up”. It was surreal and unsettling. I went there hoping to be wrong, and they were berating me. I did not get the clarification I was seeking… well, unfortunately, I did get clarification. I suspect I saw just the tip of the iceberg. 3rd Grade GATE in 2012. Close Quote
