As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I am a 20 year veteran at Prescott, and I'm not the only long-term teacher at this site. In fact, Prescott has always had a more experienced staff than most schools in the district. We stay at the school because of the cameraderie among staff, the strong sense of family we feel with the community, and the common passion we bring to our craft. Teachers at Prescott know what a difference we make in our students' lives. This is why we go the extra mile for all of our children. At Prescott we believe in teaching the whole child, and that's not just a trite statement. We engage deeply with our students' families and with their home cultures. Prescott staff are trained in recognizing and addressing trauma behaviors. We engage in regular, extensive professional development on culturally relevant pedagogy, and we make sure that every child in our classes feels seen and respected. We know that our students need real-world experiences, so we emphasize field trips, science, and gardening as integral parts of our school curriculum. We have a dedicated art teacher, a successful reading clinic for struggling students, a sophisticated computer lab, an award-winning circus theater troupe (check out Prescottcircus.org) and a robust social science emphasis that culminates in our yearly Walk Through Black History -- which is now 45 years strong! Prescott is a leader in elementary science instruction and is regularly recognized by Community Resources for Science as a Science Superstar School. We host a family engineering night and a family science night each year, as well as participating regularly in the District Science Fair. Prescott is also one of only 4 schools in Oakland that has an Expanded Transitional Kindergarten class, which accepts children who turn 5 as late as March 1, and we have a full-day State Pre-K program. Open Quote This is my first year as a classroom teacher with a group of challenging students. I enjoy working with the students and the staff as we explore the world of education. The school staff has been supportive to me in my first year. My connection to the community has made my adjustment to a new career so much easier. I am over enjoyed to be at this school. Open Quote I am a teacher at this school. I am the science teacher leader. Science is a big part of my instruction because it provides students with opportunities for reading, discussion, exploration, and writing. Although science can't be the whole day I have also a strong command of the OUSD Core Math curriculum that accompanies our Math Expressions. I have found that this district has effective tools for math and offers the opportunities for teachers to expand their math and science knowledge to support our learners. I also believe that the OUSD, although balked at sometimes, is an effective reading and writing curriculum that does support teachers ability to create classroom environments that inspires the learner. I personally have taught here since I acquired my credential and I must say that each year I am learning and growing within the OUSD content. My students by January are true 4th graders every year. I support my struggling students using technology, conferring one-on-one with students frequently, and I challenge them with extra-curricular activities that leave them with a feeling of accomplishment and privilege. I am always delighted to have previous students return to let me from middle school, all beaming to tell me they are on the Honor Roll :) Close Quote

Open Quote I've been working here over 9 years. I LOVE this school! It's a loving and supportive school that works hard to educate all the students. You can defiantly feel the Prescott Family love as you walk thru the hallways and look at the students' bulletin board displays. Everyone strives to follow our PBIS principals of being Safe, Caring and Responsible! Come and visit us :-) Close Quote

Open Quote As an educator at PLACE I have fallen in love with this place :). I am passionate about what I do and work everyday to make sure every child thrives, becomes lifelong learners and is college and career ready. As the computer technology teacher I am clear what students need in order to compete in 21st Century education. At PLACE, students begin learning typing skills as early as the 1st grade. Unfortunately, this most important skill is neglected in far too many schools and is not offered as part of the curriculum. Students learn the Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite, which include powerpoint, excel, graphics and learning how to create documents. Students also broaden their analytical thinking skills by learning how to code with programs such as Code.org, Tynker.com and Khanacademy.org. As the only staff member who has the opportunity to teach every student, I am intricately involved with each one of them. I have found students to be eager to learn and a joy to teach. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
