Summary

Lowell Elementary is a consistently top-performing K-5 public school serving 609 students in the Long Beach Unified School District, ranking in the 90th percentile statewide for the 2024-2025 year.

The school excels academically, with proficiency rates in English, math, and science far exceeding district and state averages, and it achieves this high level of success for all students, including those from historically underserved subgroups. A standout feature is Lowell's remarkably low chronic absenteeism rate of 15.6%, which is less than half the rate of some nearby schools like Willard Elementary (34.2%) and Bryant Elementary (33.3%). Furthermore, Lowell accomplishes these results with moderate per-student spending, demonstrating efficient resource use compared to other schools that spend more for lower outcomes.

Lowell is part of a notable cluster of high-performing schools in its neighborhood, alongside Naples Elementary and Fremont Elementary. The school shows particular strength in science instruction and has successfully re-engaged students post-pandemic, with attendance improving faster than the district average. While the school maintains consistent excellence, internal data shows a focus on supporting all learners, with especially strong recent progress for students in special education.

Open Quote Parents are snobs and school only cares about numbers, not the students themselves. We pulled our child out of this school and he is excelling at a school that is less focused on the numbers. Close Quote
