Summary

Don Riggio is a K-8 elementary school serving 436 students in the Lincoln Unified district of Stockton, CA, but it faces significant academic challenges, currently ranking in the bottom quarter of all California schools.

The school's test scores in English, math, and science are well below both district and state averages, and it struggles with a high rate of chronic student absenteeism, which is closely linked to lower achievement. A particularly striking comparison is with nearby Brookside Elementary, located just down the same road; Brookside earns a 4-star rating with much higher test scores and far better attendance, showing that outcomes can vary dramatically even between close neighbors in the same district. Performance for specific student groups, like those in special education, has been highly inconsistent from year to year.

Despite a steep decline in its statewide ranking over the past decade, there are signs of potential for improvement, as the school's rating has recently inched up from its lowest point. It's also notable that Don Riggio receives more funding per student than most similar schools in the area, including Brookside, raising important questions about how resources are used to support student learning and address core issues like attendance.
