Summary

L. P. Collins Elementary is a highly-rated K-5 public school serving 498 students in the top-tier Cupertino Union School District, consistently earning 5-star ratings and performing well above California state averages in English, Math, and Science.

When compared to other schools in its exceptional district, Collins is a solid, middle-tier performer. It academically outpaces neighbors like Chester W. Nimitz Elementary and Garden Gate Elementary, but trails top-ranked schools such as William Faria Elementary and John Muir Elementary. A notable strength is its exceptional, state-leading effectiveness in teaching English Language Learner students. However, the school's statewide ranking has declined in recent years, and test scores, particularly in Science and in the upper grades, are below the district average.

The school serves a more economically diverse population than some nearby schools and maintains a low chronic absenteeism rate, though it is slightly higher than the district's top performers. While spending per student is in the mid-range for the area, the variation in outcomes among nearby schools suggests factors beyond funding, like instructional practices, influence performance. Overall, Collins remains a strong school in a premier district, with clear strengths and some areas for growth relative to its peers.

Open Quote Honestly the only bad reviews are coming from parents assuming things, collins is a great school. The only downside(if it even counts) is that some teachers are better than others, but its not even by that much. Close Quote

Open Quote Stay away from this school. I am willing to bet money that most of the teachers who work here are mentally ill and take out their personal issues and problems on the children and their parents. The principal wants to support her teachers due to her own arrogance and ego. I tried complaining about them and she took it out on me and my children. Other teachers who heard about my complains also retaliated against me for speaking up about how crappy this group of teachers are. You will not be impressed with their teachings. Most of the good test scores are because parents are enrolled in places like Russian School of Math and other tutoring centers. I would give this school a zero if I could. Tension, stress, disappointment, and disrespect from staff are the type of things you should expect from this school. Close Quote

Open Quote An absolute nightmare to try to pick up my child afterschool in the Collins parking lot. If you are not there 20 minutes before school gets out, you cannot even enter the lot. After school gets out, it's another 20 minutes before the cars from Blaney Avenue are allowed to turn into the parking lot. Wear comfortable shows because you will have to park on a neighboring street and walk over to the campus if you want to pick up your child. Close Quote
