As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school is a problem child, unstable and inconsistent. It has had many meltdowns over the years along with a huge turnover of administrators, teachers and many families. I laugh when I see these silly 5 star "gosh, everything is perfect..." Reviews . As a family who spent many years there, we know the good, the bad and the ugly. This school only works IF you're lucky enough to land a good teacher who can DISCPLINE their class AND if you have a good (no problem kids) class. The community is cliquish but warm and fuzzy from a distance. Works best for K thru first or second only if you want a slower start to your child's educational career. Close Quote

Open Quote Over 80% of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students at Journey School scored proficient or above in English Language Arts and Mathematics and 87% of the 8th graders also scored proficient or above in Science on the California Standardized Test of 2011. The school also earned an API (Academic Performance Index) score of 830! Congratulations to students and staff!
Our son has been attending Journey School's Kindergarten and he enjoys learning about the sciences through nature. He is given healthy meals (quinoa, raisins, brown rice, etc..) and is exposed to high academic vocabulary through storytelling every day. Last year he had 19 students in his class with a teacher plus an assistant (not found in most public schools). Imagination and innovation is encouraged and nurtured. We are fortunate to have the opportunity to place our child in a quality Waldorf public charter school without having to pay the private school price. Thank you Journey! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
