Summary

Glendale American School is an elementary school serving grades PK-8 in the Glendale Elementary District in Glendale, Arizona, with 640 students. The school has consistently underperformed compared to state and district averages, ranking in the bottom quarter of Arizona elementary schools over the past decade and receiving 0-2 out of 5 stars from SchoolDigger.

Glendale American School's academic performance is a significant concern, with proficiency rates in English Language Arts, Math, and Science lagging behind state and district averages. For example, in 2024-2025, the school's proficiency rates were 19-41%, compared to the state averages of 36-46% and the district averages of 17-30%. The school also has relatively high dropout rates, ranging from 3.3% to 6.1% over the past 5 years, which are significantly higher than the state average. While the school has a diverse student population and a high percentage of economically disadvantaged students, these factors alone do not fully explain the school's poor performance.

When compared to nearby schools, Glendale American School consistently underperforms. For example, Horizon School, another Glendale Elementary District school, outperforms Glendale American School on most academic measures. Similarly, Sahuaro Ranch Elementary School in the Peoria Unified School District and Sunset School in the Washington Elementary School District both significantly outperform Glendale American School.

Open Quote My child went to this school for a half of the year. My child was also bullied and only one teacher seemed to do anything to assist and was very helpful. I would have taken my child out sooner if not for the efforts of this teacher. I was told other teachers my child was part of the problem yet when I asked nothing was provided to show me. The other student had a history of behavior issues according to several other parents and students. I finally took my child out of this school. At parent teacher conferences I was given a report card but not shown any work my child completed showing me any issues. It was the first time I heard there were academic issues. The communication was terrible even after I asked to be updated. Close Quote
