Open Quote We want a THINKING child, a creative thinking, problem-solving leader who could rise to the top of his/her field....whatever that is. This requires intrinsic motivation (not operating because of rewards or praise, but an internal drive) and love of learning (not just memorizing or following a single source of information).... we come from the best school districts in the Northeast and are unwilling to settle for "average" in a state ranked 48th worst. (We love Arizona, but seriously...) so we have done a TON of research on this....

For our kindergartner, we toured 3 of the Top-Rated Charter Schools plus our Maricopa Public School (the only one A+ rated) and chose a non-montessori local Charter. After a few months of Kindergarten, our daughter was still bringing home work she did in preschool, and the behavior and learning motivation was completely external and spoon-fed.

Super frustrated about her lack of challenge, after a few months, we met again with Camino Montessori Director Judy and her Operations Director, and researched it TONS online. We are SO glad to be moving our daughter to a smaller organization that focuses on true leadership and personal potential. The families have been really involved and welcoming, and so far we're really really happy with this school.

I can't imagine sending my kids back to a public or any other charter school in Maricopa. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
