We've been at this school for 3 years now for two different grades. I used to think this school was excellent. However changes in the curriculum have made it more difficult to teach for the Learning Coach. The math is moved through so quickly the kids ca barely keep up. I have two Honor Roll kids and they can barely grasp any math before it's moved on to something else. The 3rd graders spent 4 weeks total on multiplication. In 6th grade they spent only 4 weeks total in Algebra. In my day, we spent months on multiplication and a whole year mastering Algebra. I don't know if this is just Arizona or the curriculum designed for ACC but it's many times beyond the reach of my kids so I imagine that if you're children aren't fantastic at math or excellent readers, they will not do well at this online school. Remember too that you are their learning coach so if you're aren't awesome at quickly learning geometry, statistics, higher sciences and language arts even for lower grades you won't be able to teach your kids. I would rate this school at 2018 school year poor to Ok. I would venture to say it's Az Merit scores will fall dramatically this year. Between the revamps to K-6 grade curriculum which is confusing and less enriching than previous years and the ridiculous math and science difficulty in junior high, this I foresee this school's rating falling. We started with Connections Academy for the 2009-2010 school year. My daughter had been in a regular public school from Kindergarten through 5th Grade. After we moved within a new school district I was not happy with the test scores and larger class sizes. I researched different schools and found Connections Academy. The first year was a tough start, mostly because I was a little unprepared. But half way through we got a good system going. This year has been great, currently my daughter is in the 7th Grade. The curriculum is outstanding, the communication with teachers is awesome. They have a great online Learning Management System that is easy to use.
