Summary

White Plains Middle School is a public middle school in Anniston, Alabama, serving 391 students in grades 5-8 as part of the Calhoun County School District. The school has consistently ranked among the top middle schools in Alabama, maintaining a 4 or 5-star rating from SchoolDigger over the past 10 years and outperforming the district and state averages in English Language Arts proficiency.

One of the school's standout achievements is its exceptional performance in serving special education students. In the 2024-2025 school year, White Plains Middle School ranked 26 out of 271 Alabama middle schools for special education students, earning a 5-star rating. Additionally, the school has shown signs of improvement in mathematics performance, with the 7th-grade proficiency rate increasing to 44.05% in 2023-2024, compared to 19.55% for Calhoun County and 23.6% for the state.

While White Plains Middle School generally outperforms other Calhoun County middle schools, it faces some challenges, including a concerning increase in chronic absenteeism and a relatively high percentage of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds. The school also shows disparities in the performance of different student subgroups, with Hispanic and English Language Learner students having lower proficiency rates compared to their peers. Addressing these areas and continuing to support the academic growth of all students will be crucial for the school's continued success.
