As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The school facilities are very nice and located in an ideal setting within the neighborhood. The music teacher Mr. Baranow is exceptional and very talented. Academically, the school was disappointing. My child received top honors without any effort, his handwriting was so horrible that it was barely legible and his 4th grade teacher did nothing to correct it. He never had homework and brought home several pages of "connect-the dots" as classwork. His teacher did not respond to emails and often had a substitute.
After we switched to a different school, my son has been struggling to catch up to the grade level standards in both language arts and math. Several kids have also complained about not having enough time to eat lunch.
Alpenglow has the potential to become an amazing school if they would put more emphasis on academics and discipline. Some teachers seem genuinely interested in teaching while others did not care at all.
The school has great extracurricular activities such as music, and running club but it is lacking in academics. Close Quote

Open Quote I was very disappointed with this school. I had heard good reviews by other parents, but the curriculum was substandard and my son's teacher had no control over her classroom. The situation was aggravated by a class size of 26 students with out an aid. After the first quarter, I withdrew my children and started home schooling. I want my children to be prepared for college, and this school was more like a third rate daycare than a learning institution. If you are moving to Eagle River and you care about your child's education, I would recommend the Eagle River Charter Academy or the Alaska Virtual Academy. (The Alaska virtual academy is a homeschool program that is funded by the state and uses the K-12 online school curriculum.) Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
