Summary

Rainier Beach High School is a public high school serving 854 students in grades 9-12 in the Rainier Beach neighborhood of Seattle, operating within the generally well-regarded Seattle School District No. 1.

The school faces significant academic challenges, consistently ranking in the bottom quarter of Washington high schools despite receiving the highest per-student funding among comparable local schools, which suggests funding alone is not a simple solution. While graduation rates are solidly above the state average, proficiency rates in core subjects like math and science are notably low. The data reveals a stark contrast with nearby Cleveland High School STEM, a school of similar size and economic profile that achieves dramatically higher academic rankings and near-perfect graduation rates with slightly less funding, indicating other critical factors are at play in student success.

Looking at the broader landscape, the inequality in educational opportunity is pronounced; just a short distance away, Raisbeck Aviation High School in the Highline School District is a top-tier performer. Within its own district, Rainier Beach is the lowest-performing comprehensive high school compared to peers like Franklin High School. This information highlights that families in the same city have access to vastly different school outcomes, and for Rainier Beach, the path to improvement likely requires deep, systemic changes beyond financial investment.

Open Quote Rainier Beach is a Great School
Im a Freshman there right now and the teachers really care about you and wants the best for you. The education system is really great its called IB program. Its a higher class better than Franklin or Cleveland high school education system. People think the school is ghetto, but it ain't that was from the past. Right now there are nice people there and there not even one shooting i ever heard from this school the first day of school no shooting or killing. If you haven't been there don't talk shit about it.
