Summary

Hazen Senior High School is a large, well-regarded public high school serving grades 9-12 and approximately 1,800 students in the Renton School District, consistently performing above district and state averages.

Hazen stands out as the top-performing comprehensive high school within its own district, with significantly higher test scores and an 87.1% graduation rate that outpaces its peers like Renton Senior High School and Lindbergh Senior High School. The school has shown a steady, multi-year improvement trajectory and earns strong 4-star ratings. It's noteworthy that Hazen achieves these outcomes with a higher student-teacher ratio and per-student spending similar to other area schools, including the highly-ranked Liberty Senior High School in the neighboring Issaquah School District.

While Hazen is effective for many student groups, performance can vary, and the school has shown significant year-to-year changes in results for some populations. The analysis also highlights a wide performance range within the Renton district, where alternative schools such as Talley High School and Open Door Youth Reengagement face different challenges. Overall, Hazen represents a strong and efficient academic option that has consistently delivered improving results for its students.

Open Quote I have two current students at Hazen, and two graduates. It is an AMAZING community of students, parents and teachers. The students are nice to each other, the parents friendly and eager to help, and the staff is motivated to get the most out of every student they have. We are bordered by excellent, and over-all wealthier school districts (Issaquah and Bellevue), but we believe our children were best served by the Renton schools they attended from K thru 12.
