Summary

Springbrook Elementary School is a public elementary school (PK-5) serving about 350 students in the Kent School District, located in a community with significant economic need where over two-thirds of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.

Academically, the school faces challenges, with overall state test scores in English and science below district and state averages, contributing to its low statewide ranking. However, there are notable bright spots: the school's math scores are actually higher than the Kent School District average and showed significant improvement this past year. Furthermore, Springbrook achieves comparable or better academic results than other nearby high-need schools like Park Orchard Elementary School and East Hill Elementary School, despite similar levels of economic need.

When compared to all schools in the immediate area, the performance range is extreme, from top-performing Sunrise Elementary School to struggling East Hill Elementary School. Springbrook spends more per student than some of these higher-performing schools, raising questions about how resources are used. The school's effectiveness with different student groups has been inconsistent from year to year, but its recent gains in math and relative strength in science within the district suggest areas where the school is building positive momentum.

Open Quote This school sucks, They lack funds and leadership. Too much time and money being spent on getting non English speaking students up to grade. while the English speaking students are not receiving a well rounded education. Their failure to provide life sciences, social studies, and humanities makes them very low ranking to me. I feel this school puts too much emphasis on teaching to standardized test than to actually creating a fun positive learning environment that kids want to learn in. Not only that this school utilized harsh and unreasonable behavior management strategies. this is noted by incidents of children being handcuffed in elementary school. Close Quote
