Summary

Pine Tree Elementary is a public PK-5 school serving about 305 students in the Kent School District, currently ranked in the bottom 10% of Washington elementary schools despite having a low student-teacher ratio of 13-to-1 and higher per-student spending than many nearby schools.

When compared to other elementary schools in the area, Pine Tree's academic results are lower than expected given its resources. For instance, it spends over $24,000 per student but has lower proficiency rates in English and math than nearby schools like Horizon Elementary and Hazelwood Elementary, which spend thousands less. Several schools with very similar student populations, such as Scenic Hill Elementary, achieve significantly better academic outcomes, indicating that challenges at Pine Tree may extend beyond demographics.

The school's performance has declined notably in recent years, and it is part of a geographic cluster of low-performing schools that includes Millennium Elementary and Meadow Ridge Elementary. Interestingly, some schools in the neighboring Auburn School District, like Willow Crest Elementary, perform better with similar students and lower spending, suggesting district-level practices may influence results.

Open Quote I have sent my kids here from kindergarten and now in 6th. The teachers and principle are a joke. Thankfully this is the last year for my daughter and I will be searching for something new for my son. Close Quote

Open Quote They can't seem to keep Principals, Teachers or staff, and not because the school doesn't have money but because of the students and the dynamics of the school itself. Not organized at all. Young students are reckless and horribly misbehaved that the teachers have a hard time controlling them. Starting third year and I'm disappointed, frustrated and outraged with this school, yet again. Close Quote
