Summary

Griffin School is a public Pre-K through 8th grade school in Olympia, WA, serving 585 students in the Griffin School District and is currently ranked among the top 25% of all schools in Washington state.

Academically, Griffin consistently outperforms both state averages and most nearby schools, with particular strengths in science and math. For example, its science proficiency is the highest among local schools, and it outperforms schools like Lincoln Elementary School and Black Lake Elementary in overall ranking. The school has shown impressive recent improvement and is effective in supporting students from various economic backgrounds, achieving stronger results than some schools with similar student demographics, such as Garfield Elementary School.

Griffin's success is supported by a high-performing district and a unique Pre-K-8 structure that allows for continuity. While it spends more per student than many area schools, this investment correlates with strong outcomes. Parents may note specific areas for attention, like math performance in certain middle grades and a performance gap between male and female students, but overall, Griffin stands out as a stable, high-achieving choice in the region.

Open Quote Problems with bullying at school as well as on the buses. Too many disruptions in class with disruptive students being sent out of classrooms to "re-focus". Younger grade students are encouraged to deal with cursing and bullying on their own without teacher aide. Disappointed with Griffin. Close Quote

Open Quote We pulled our kids out of Griffin after 4 months. Not only were there grades suffering, but they were constantly bullied and harassed by other students. While this may be expected of kids from time to time, the school would do nothing to stop the problems. They do have a bullying policy in place but do not follow it. The bottom line is if you want your children exposed to mean, rude, kids, send them to Griffin. If you want them to go to a safe and caring school to learn, find another option. Close Quote
