Summary

Pioneer Elementary School is a K-5 public school serving about 550 students in Vancouver, WA, as part of the Evergreen School District (Clark), but its statewide academic ranking has fallen significantly over the past decade to the bottom quartile of Washington schools.

When compared to ten nearby elementary schools in the same district, Pioneer's performance is in the middle of the pack. It notably outperforms schools like Orchards Elementary School and Silver Star Elementary School academically, even while spending less money per student and having a higher student-to-teacher ratio. However, it falls well behind higher-performing neighbors such as Harmony Elementary School and Emerald Elementary School. A relative strength for Pioneer is its math proficiency, which is slightly above the district average, unlike most nearby schools.

Despite operating efficiently with its resources, the school shows a concerning downward trend over several years, with significant declines in performance for specific student groups, including English Language Learners. There are also notable gaps in performance between female and male students. On a positive note, science proficiency at Pioneer is a relative strength, exceeding its scores in English and math. The data suggests the school could build on its math and science instruction while urgently addressing the needs of its struggling student groups to reverse its declining trajectory.

Open Quote My daughter is now in 3rd grade at Pioneer, and has been a student since K. Generally, the school facilities seem satisfactory, and staff / teachers seem concerned and dedicated. My daughter has tested and was accepted to the excel program, so I was honestly a bit shocked to learn that it ranked so low. Close Quote
