Open Quote My children went there for 2 1/2 years. They were passed along through the grades but not actually moving forward academically. We kept getting told they had ADHD. They also went to the nurse at least 2-3 times a week with small complaints. They should have been sent back to class. She instead call me and insist I come pick them up.
I moved and have them in a MUCH better school and district. They immediately tested them and found they were at kindergarten level even though Sterling had passed them and “taught” them to 2nd grade level. It took several months but they have a team of experts and they did formal testing on them at the school. The boys were found to have dyslexia, ADHD and be academically developmentally delayed. They have now been in a hybrid special needs program for 2 years. They are in general education all day but pulled for the assistance in the special education room four times a day for 45 minutes. Also they do go to the nurse, but she sends them back to class. Not only do kids try to get out of school and a nurse need to know what’s really sick and an excuse, but parents need to work. We all can’t leave work 2 or 3 times a week.
My oldest was also at Sterling. He was in their advanced classes. He transferred to middle school here and when they looked at what he was taking he was placed in the lowest classes they had to offfer. He still struggled because he had not learned it yet. It took us a while to get him adjusted and caught up. So glad to be out of East Wenatchee school district and Sterling as it is lacking in so many ways! Close Quote
