Summary

Spiritridge Elementary School is a K-5 public school serving 546 students in the highly-regarded Bellevue School District, though it has recently seen a notable shift from its historically top-tier performance to a more middle position among area schools.

While Spiritridge's test scores are still well above state averages, they have declined significantly over the past few years, a trend not seen as sharply in some nearby schools like Somerset Elementary School or Creekside Elementary. The school shows exceptional strength in supporting English Language Learners but has faced challenges with performance consistency for some student groups, including those in Special Education. Its spending per student is moderate, and it achieves this with a slightly higher student-teacher ratio than some lower-performing neighboring schools such as Stevenson Elementary.

Compared to other schools in the Bellevue School District and the neighboring Issaquah School District, Spiritridge finds itself in a unique position: it outperforms schools with higher economic need like Phantom Lake Elementary and Lake Hills Elementary, but now lags behind schools with similar or lower levels of need, such as Bennett Elementary School and Cougar Ridge Elementary. This suggests the school's current trajectory and instructional approaches are key factors for parents to consider.

Open Quote Most of the teachers at this school are lovely...although having said that we did have a pretty bad year last year with one teacher who managed to make my quite bright 8 year-old have very low self-confidence in many schooling areas. Luckily already 3 weeks into the following school year his new teacher has helped hugely and he's nearly back to his old self.

One thing I've noticed, though, is that the support for very bright (but not gifted) children isn't great at this school. My older son "just missed out" on the gifted program, but consistently scores 98th-99th percentile on his reading and math star tests. The teachers seem to be bound to follow the general curriculum with all children in their class rather than extending children who already understand a particular unit of study. This leads to a fair bit of boredom. I say it's not great "at this school" because at another school in the same district, we had a brilliant teacher who moved my younger son into math topics for the year above around half-way through the year, thereby keeping him challenged and learning. My daughter can't wait for Monday every weekend. I can't think of a single negative remark to say about this school. Close Quote
