Summary

Enatai Elementary is a well-regarded public school serving about 518 students from preschool through 5th grade in the high-achieving Bellevue School District.

By Washington state standards, Enatai is a strong school, with test scores in English, math, and science that are above the state average and earning it a 4-star rating. However, within its own competitive district, its scores are noticeably lower than the Bellevue and Somerset district averages. When compared to some nearby schools like Medina Elementary or Island Park Elementary on Mercer Island, Enatai's proficiency rates are 15 to 30 points lower. Its performance is most similar to Clyde Hill Elementary, a school with a comparable student population.

Recent years show a slight decline in Enatai's statewide ranking and test scores. The school spends more per student than some higher-performing neighbors, indicating that strategic use of resources is key. A notable strength is its effectiveness with English Language Learners. A point for improvement is a significant dip in 5th-grade math scores. The success of a school like Woodridge Elementary, which achieves higher scores with a similar student profile, shows that improvement is an achievable goal for Enatai.

Open Quote My child went to this school for 3 years and she finished 5th grade leaving all of us unimpressed with the quality of teaching--none of her 3 elementary teachers took the time or interest in her. She was labeled timid yet outside the classroom, blossomed in all aspects of her extra curricular activities such as chess, dance, ballet, brain child learning etc. She was told her math and reading was poor even though she consistently scored the highest in her class and at 3 grades above her current grade level for STARS and MSP, and was invited to apply for Prism and the BSD gifted program for 3 consecutive years.
The teachers arbitrarily grade, without proof or documentation of why my child would receive a low score, despite my bi-weekly inquiries to assist my child with school work or any other concerns during the school week that I can work and assist my child with.
The PTSA program is great, and are able to identify weak points in the administration and academia (and make up for what is missing), but the teachers should be carefully screened and parents be given a chance to assess and grade the teachers as well, at the end of the school year. Close Quote
