Summary

Brandon Middle is a public middle school located in Virginia Beach, Virginia, serving grades 6-8 with an enrollment of 1,022 students. The school is part of the Virginia Beach City Public Schools district, which is ranked 25th out of 129 districts in Virginia and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Brandon Middle has consistently ranked in the top half of Virginia middle schools, with its students performing on par with or slightly below the district and state averages on SOL (Standards of Learning) tests. However, the school stands out for its exceptional performance in Algebra I, with 100% proficiency in 7th grade and over 96% in 8th grade. This suggests the school is effectively preparing students for advanced mathematics coursework. In contrast, the school's lower proficiency rates in 6th and 7th grade Mathematics, as well as in English Reading, indicate potential areas for improvement.

Compared to nearby schools, Landstown Middle and Salem Middle consistently outperform Brandon Middle on state assessments, while Bayside 6th Grade Campus and Bayside Middle, which serve a higher proportion of economically disadvantaged students, have lower academic performance. The nearby schools in the Chesapeake City Public Schools district generally perform at a lower level than Brandon Middle on state assessments.

Open Quote The school is by far the worst school my child has attended in VA Beach. My child was identified as a child that needs extra attention because he has a little difficulty with comprehension but is not a special needs child. He may need more attention than other students in class. The teachers do not update the Internet website with assignments. I have requested meetings to check my child's progress being that this is his first year of middle school and I wanted to make sure he is on track. They have told me tutoring is available in the morning and evenings but do to my child only being a 6th grader only mornings would be available for him. This is unfair as I have to be at work very early and have no way to get him there that early. Evening students are able to take the activities bus home. Noone ever gets back to me. I have made complaints with the principal, and the schoolboard about this school. I will look into moving into another school zone next year hopefully my child will be able to get the attention he deserves. Close Quote
