Riverside Elementary consistently underperforms compared to the district and state averages in standardized test scores across various subjects and grade levels. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, the school's proficiency rates in Mathematics, English Reading, and Science were significantly lower than the district and state averages. Additionally, Riverside Elementary has had high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 15.7% to 23.4% in recent years, which is much higher than the state average. The school also serves a very high percentage of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, with 97.18% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch in the 2023-2024 school year.

Riverside Elementary's performance is significantly lower than that of nearby magnet schools, such as Hilton Elementary and Deer Park Elementary, which consistently outperform Riverside in academic measures and have much higher proficiency rates. Despite the high percentage of students from low-income backgrounds, Riverside Elementary's per-student spending is lower than some of the nearby schools, which may contribute to the school's underperformance. Addressing the root causes of chronic absenteeism and promoting equitable access to educational opportunities for all students will be key focus areas for improvement at Riverside Elementary.

Open Quote Riverside goes out of its way to provide students with a feeling of pride and self-worth. Both my children have attended Riverside and I am very pleased with their teachers. Each child was encouraged to develop their own intellectual interest and was supported in their drive to succeed. Riverside has that feeling of caring which is so important to children of this age.
