Open Quote It's not useful when a parent just says "this is a terrible school" with no supporting details. I'm going to say "this is a great school" with a lot of supporting details. My son went to Dranesville for grades 1 and 2 until he got into AAP and moved to Clearview, the local Level IV center at the time. My daughter also got into the AAP program and because Dranesville became a Level IV center two years ago, she decided to stay, and she's been there for four years now (first through fourth grade). We've loved the school. My son was bored to death in first and second grade, and his second grade teacher in particular made incredible efforts to accommodate my son to keep him interested and engaged. My daughter's first grade teacher was the most kind, loving, wonderful teacher, and it made my daughter's transition from a private kindergarten to Dranesville so easy. Her second grade teacher was new to the school that year and was a disaster, and the principal at Dranesville, Ms. Toussaint-Williams, is so amazing and so unwilling to put up with mediocrity that the teacher was not back at Dranesville (or any other Fairfax County school, I'm told) the next year. Ms. Toussaint-Williams is one of the smartest, most driven to excellence, most engaged school professionals I've ever met. She is also clearly in love with her job, cares for each and every kid in the school, and is engaged 100% of the time. She is easy to get in touch with and is always willing to make time for parents. The school is also very diverse with over 100 countries represented, I believe. It's been a richer experience having my kids know and learn from children from all backgrounds. Close Quote

Open Quote Dranesville Elementary School was a terrible school. We got out of there as quickly as we could. There are excellent schools in the Fairfax County system. This is not one of them. I gave Dranesville one star because it was not possible to give them zero or negative stars. Close Quote
