Summary

Fort Hunt Elementary is a public magnet elementary school in Alexandria, Virginia, serving 573 students in grades PK-6. The school is part of the Fairfax County Public Schools district, which is ranked 45 out of 129 school districts in Virginia.

Fort Hunt Elementary consistently outperforms the district and state averages in standardized test scores, particularly in mathematics and English reading. The school's 3-star rating from SchoolDigger indicates a stable and solid academic performance. However, the school's higher chronic absenteeism rates compared to the district and state averages may be an area of concern. Additionally, while the school's performance for white and military-connected students is exceptional, the performance of African American and low socioeconomic status students is relatively weaker, suggesting the need for targeted interventions.

When compared to nearby schools, such as Woodlawn Elementary, Hybla Valley Elementary, and Mount Vernon Woods Elementary, Fort Hunt Elementary consistently outperforms them in academic achievement. The nearby schools also have a higher percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a higher concentration of students from low-income families. In contrast, Stratford Landing Elementary and Waynewood Elementary, which are closest in proximity to Fort Hunt Elementary, also demonstrate strong academic performance.

Open Quote This school has greatly improved, and I'm surprised to see the poor ratings. We love it here. The Spanish immersion program is a unique offering. The principal makes a genuine effort to get to know the kids. It's a caring community. Close Quote

Open Quote Poor leadership, poor teachers, poor communication, poor follow through, poor undersatnding of their roll as an educator. The staff and administrators are not willing to perform any task outside of the 8:30am to 3:25pm time frame. The back to school nigths are poorly designed and the information shared is not accurate or followed through on. There is no use of the 24/7 learning as these educators are to lazy to post on the Blackboards. The Spanish program is poorly designed and presented. Close Quote
