Summary

Kenmore Middle is a public middle school located in Arlington, Virginia, serving grades 6-8 with a total enrollment of 1,004 students. It is part of the Arlington County Public Schools district, which is ranked 28 out of 129 school districts in Virginia and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Kenmore Middle has consistently strong performance in advanced math courses like Algebra I and Geometry, with 100% proficiency rates in recent years. However, the school lags behind the district and state averages in regular math proficiency, particularly in 7th and 8th grade. In reading, Kenmore Middle's proficiency rates are also below the district and state averages, especially in 6th and 7th grade. The school's high percentage of economically disadvantaged students, ranging from 50-67% in recent years, likely contributes to its lower academic performance compared to nearby high-performing schools like Dorothy Hamm Middle, Williamsburg Middle, and Swanson Middle, which are all ranked in the top 100 Virginia middle schools.

Kenmore Middle's high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 13.2% to 19.3% in recent years, are a significant concern and may be a contributing factor to its lower academic performance. While the school performs well for its African American and multi-racial student subgroups, ranking in the top quartile of Virginia middle schools, it struggles with its Asian and Hispanic student subgroups, ranking in the bottom half or bottom quartile. Addressing attendance issues and targeting support for these underperforming subgroups could be crucial for improving Kenmore Middle's overall outcomes.

Open Quote Kenmore was the best middle school I could've asked for. I genuinely enjoyed my time there, and would recommend it to anyone. Especially for theater and tech kids, this school is amazing. Close Quote

Open Quote This school is amazing! It has the best art program in all of Arlington. The teachers are so wonderful and nice. The administrators are just as nice as well. We have a ton of Musicals and Performances. We have one of the top orchestra and bands in the country, and the most 3-D printers out of any middle school in the country. We have dance P.E. As an option, instead of normal P.E.. The school has many windows, so lots of natural light, I love it here. There is an incredible Gifted Program, for math and English. Kenmore also offers 5+ languages. The only downside to this school is that many kids come and can't speak English, so there test scores are lower because they cannot read as well. This school though Is very diverse and I highly recommend this school to any tech. lovers and or theater enthusiasts. Close Quote

Open Quote The only reason this school is getting one star is because zero stars is not an option. This school sends the majority of the kids out feeling worse than they did to begin with, the kids are constantly being peer-pressured into doing drugs and alcohol, it is racially separated informally, and it gives kids the impression that not being smart is cool, which sets most of the kids up to fail. This last reason is possible the most important. If you SchoolDigger could set up a way to measure how alumni do in later life, this would be apparent. Personally, this school has fostered depression and bullying for me. Both were ignored. This is the worst school you could possibly send your kids to. I do not recommend it at all. Close Quote
