Summary

Alice West Fleet Elementary is a public elementary school in Arlington, Virginia, serving 593 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Arlington County Public Schools district, which is ranked 28 out of 129 school districts in Virginia and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Alice West Fleet Elementary has shown strong academic performance, with most of its test scores in Mathematics, English Reading, and Science exceeding the Arlington County and Virginia state averages. The school's 3rd, 4th, and 5th-grade students have consistently performed well, with proficiency rates often in the 70-80% range, sometimes even higher. Compared to nearby schools like Hoffman-Boston Elementary, Claremont Immersion, and Montessori Public School of Arlington, Alice West Fleet Elementary generally outperforms its peers, especially in Mathematics and English Reading.

However, the school faces some challenges, including a concerning increase in chronic absenteeism rates, rising from 9.9% in 2020-2021 to 19.3% in 2022-2023. Additionally, the school has seen performance disparities among its student subgroups, with the African American and White student subgroups consistently ranking in the top quartile of Virginia elementary schools, while the Asian and Hispanic student subgroups have struggled, ranking in the bottom half or bottom quartile. The school's English Language Learner (ELL) and Low Socioeconomic Status (SES) student subgroups have also faced challenges, with lower rankings compared to other Virginia elementary schools. The school and district should closely examine the underlying factors contributing to these achievement gaps and implement targeted interventions to support the struggling subgroups.

Open Quote Great school. As a military family, we moved to Arlington this year (2012) and have a first and third grader at Patrick Henry. We could not be any happier with the school and the teachers. Classes are engaging but challenging - my kids are given a good bit of homework that seems to do a good job incorporating ideas from across the curriculum into the work. The teachers have done a good job assessing our kids and giving them appropriate level assignments. The Principal and PTA are extremely active, much more than we saw at previous schools, which has been a welcome change. Overall, Patrick Henry has been terrific - I would highly recommend it to any inbound families. Close Quote
