Summary

Jackson P. Burley Middle is a public middle school in Charlottesville, Virginia, serving 551 students in grades 6-8. While the school is part of the Albemarle County Public Schools district, which is ranked 47 out of 129 school districts in Virginia, Burley Middle has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Virginia middle schools over the past 10 years, performing below the district and state averages on Standards of Learning (SOL) tests, particularly in Mathematics.

The school's academic performance is a concern, with low proficiency rates in Mathematics and English Reading compared to nearby schools like Joseph T. Henley Middle and Lakeside Middle. Additionally, Burley Middle has a higher percentage of economically disadvantaged students, which may be a contributing factor to its lower academic outcomes. The school also faces challenges with high chronic absenteeism rates, which can further impact student learning and achievement.

While the reasons behind Burley Middle's performance are complex, addressing the needs of its student population, implementing targeted interventions, and ensuring equitable resource allocation within the Albemarle County Public Schools district could be crucial in improving the school's overall outcomes and providing a high-quality education for all its students.

Open Quote My name is Alaya Starks and i went to Jackson P. Burley my 7th and 8th grade year and I loved it here. They have great opportunities for the students to get into like YWLP, fun field trips to Marshes and etc,and the teachers are wonderful. My favorite teacher was Mr. Craig Jennings he is AWESOME!!!! I loved being apart of the Bearettes. I wish I could go back but I have made it to my junior year now, I just have to say that I learned a lot there and enjoyed being apart of everything.
