Summary

Noah Webster Academy is a public charter elementary school in Orem, Utah, serving 534 students from kindergarten to 6th grade. The school has a mixed performance profile, with strengths in certain academic areas but also facing challenges related to chronic absenteeism and socioeconomic factors.

In academic assessments, Noah Webster Academy's student performance is generally above the state average in mathematics and English Language Arts, with 3rd grade math proficiency at 50% and 5th grade ELA proficiency at 60%. However, the school's science proficiency rates are more variable, ranging from 48.6% to 58.9% across different grade levels. The school performs well for its white student population, ranking 66 out of 408 Utah elementary schools, and also performs reasonably well for its low socioeconomic status students, ranking 62 out of 162 schools.

Compared to nearby top-performing schools like Orchard School and Foothill School, Noah Webster Academy's overall performance is lower. However, the school outperforms some lower-performing nearby schools, such as Westmore School and Parkside Elementary. The school's high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 23.8% to 38.7%, may be contributing to its relatively lower academic performance. Additionally, the school's increasing percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, from 35.29% to 41.95%, suggests a growing population of students from lower-income families, which may present additional challenges.

Open Quote NWA has been fantastic with meeting our kids needs (both special needs and mainstream for kids).

Can really tell that the teachers and admin care about the kids. Close Quote

Open Quote I was very pleased with the school in 2011, but they have changed their whole program this year (2012). Some of the changes are improvements, but the environment they have created this year is very hostile, frightening, and or stressful for the children. They have really increased the negative reinforcement this year (card flip extravaganza), Children are not allowed to sit with their friends at lunch time and they are not even allowed to talk to one another during some of their lunch time (they call it "chew time", during this time the little kids are expected to shut up and chew their food ). School is always somewhat stressful just because it is school, but they have added a lot of completely unnecessary stress to their program this year. The wait to pick up your kids at car pool has doubled as well (expect to spend 40-60 per day waiting in line to pick up your child). Half of their teachers left the school last year after the school announced their plans for this year. I am now starting to understand why. Many of the new teachers have never taught before. The principal seems unresponsive to parent feedback. If you are looking for a new school, my advice is to keep looking. Close Quote

Open Quote There are several reasons why we like this school. The teachers use the same method to teach Math (Saxon), English (Shurley), and Language Arts (Spalding) from kindergarten to sixth grade. Students wear a uniform. The playground area is out-of-sight from the street and they use a car-pool system so children are not just released without supervision after school. There are 2 adults in every classroom (the teacher and the teacher's full-time assistant). We feel like our children are getting a quality education at this school. Close Quote
