Summary

Rush Elementary is a public elementary school in Lubbock, Texas, serving 314 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Lubbock Independent School District (ISD), which is ranked 576 out of 961 districts in the state and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Overall, Rush Elementary faces several academic challenges. The school's student performance on STAAR tests is generally below the Lubbock ISD and Texas state averages across grade levels and subject areas. For example, in 2024-2025, only 32.56% of 3rd-grade students at Rush Elementary were proficient or better in STAAR Reading, compared to 48.75% in Lubbock ISD and 52.02% statewide. The school's performance also varies significantly across different student subgroups, with some, like Gifted and Talented students, performing relatively well, while others, like Hispanic students, struggle. Additionally, 74.84% of Rush Elementary students come from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, which likely contributes to the school's academic performance challenges.

When compared to nearby elementary schools in the Lubbock ISD, such as Overton Elementary and Centennial Elementary, Rush Elementary generally performs worse on STAAR assessments, with lower proficiency rates in reading, math, and science. However, one exception is Wilson Elementary, a magnet school in the district, which significantly outperforms Rush and the other nearby schools on STAAR tests.

Open Quote Our family has been at Rush Elementary since 2005 and we have had nothing but positive experiences there. I believe it is one of the best schools in town. Unfortunately, it sits in a very high income neighborhood and many of the families there choose to send their children to alternate schools. We lose some great families to other public schools and some private. I know the decision as to where to send your child is very personal, I just wish more people would give Rush a chance. We are a Title 1 school which speaks of our diversity and I personally love that. Our teachers are some of the most devoted women I have ever seen that go above and beyond their paycheck. Our principal is in his second year at Rush but came in with over 30 years experience in LISD and he could not be more beloved. He works tirelessly, along with the staff, to improve our campus. Whether it is creating more opportunities for our children to be exposed to the "new and different" or just hugging a child who was in need that day, Rush Elementary has been the greatest blessing to our family. We are a small school that truly is an old fashioned neighborhood school. LISD adopted the C-SCOPE curriculum this year so every school is being taught the exactly same thing. Why would you not choose to have your child in a small environment surrounded by loving and supportive people teaching above and beyond the level as to which they are expected? We have loved it and sadly, we only have two more years left at Rush. I will be a sad mom when we say goodbye to them for good. Close Quote
