Open Quote My younger siblings all went through Lovejoy High School and the policies in place are horrible. Yeah, Lovejoy rates among the highest GPAs for their students, but that's because it's impossible to fail. Failed tests can be retested multiple times to get up to 85%, which also replaces failed quizzes. Conceptually, this means that the student has mastered the materials and earned a good grade. In practice, students are shown the correct answers and just fill them in the next time they take the exact same test. That's not learning, that's regurgitating. Then there are no late grades. There never really has been a score deduction for late work, but now it's considered a "behavioral" issue. Students can receive full credit for turning in their work days after its due by attending a tutoring session. Big whoop. In college, and the real world, that kind of behavior will fail you or get you fired. Students at Lovejoy are set up for failure, and only the ones that are self-motivated succeed in college. When your valedictorian starts ripping your grading policies in her speech, you know you're part of something incredibly mediocre. Close Quote
